What Brings You Here?
Midlife has a way of stirring up big questions. While they show up in different areas of life, they tend to share a common thread: meaning and purpose.
If that’s what brings you here, you’re in the right place.
Here’s some of the questions and challenges my clients have brought to coaching:
Work and Identity
🌀 If not this then what? This is often about work but could be anything. It’s a restless, in-between place where something no longer fits but the next thing isn’t clear (yet).
🌀 I can afford to retire, but it feels too final. When life has had a lot of structure, achievement and busy-ness, stepping away can feel like an identity crisis.
Relationships
🌀 How do I stop being everything to everyone? It’s not just about setting boundaries - it’s about untangling identity from obligation. It also shows up as, “Am I enough?”
🌀 I’ve been so busy for so long that I’m not sure there’s anything else.
Social disconnection is a significant health risk, especially when the demands of careers and parenting fall away.
Body and Self
🌀 How can I feel at home in my body? Whether it’s weight, ill-health or society’s standards, this question points to an opportunity to give yourself less judgement and more kindness, flexibility and respect.
Meaning and purpose
🌀 What’s my legacy? You’ve done all the things, but what will outlast you? One of the most common midlife questions.

Re-imaging Retirement: Coaching for Meaning, Identity and Connection
This helps you think beyond the financials and into what brings meaning, connection and a sense of vitality.
This means different things to different people so the process is shaped around what’s real for you.
This helps you navigate the space between what’s no longer working and what’s not yet clear. It’s a place to pause, reflect, and realign with what matters to you.
I run a separate counselling business but narrative practices are an important part of my coaching work. They help you make sense of your stories (past and present), and help explore how your values, beliefs and strengths can create new narratives for midlife and beyond.
This is an extension of my 30-year career in corporate communication, advising leaders on how to speak plainly and with purpose.
What do you need to say? Who needs to hear it? How can you say it in a way that’s true to you and hits the mark with them? That’s the work.
How I Can Help
No matter what brings you here, you’re probably wondering how coaching can support you.
The first step is understanding that it’s different to counselling. It’s future-focused and centres listening and enquiry. No diagnosis, no treatment, no advice.
Here’s some of the things we can work on together:
Make sense of “stuck” feelings, and what they’re pointing to.
Clarify your intention/s - this is a necessary step before setting goals.
Identify what feels positive—and how to make more space for it.
Explore the big questions without rushing to fix.
Identify small steps that build momentum.
Following through. Once you’ve committed to actions, I can be your accountability partner.
I ask a lot of questions. This helps me understand you and helps you:
consider issues from multiple angles
make informed decisions; and
move forward with clear intention.
What I don’t do
Offer advice. What works for me is unlikely to work for you. My role is to help you uncover what feels right for you.
Solve problems. You’re the expert in your life. My role is to stimulate your thinking, not shortcut it.
Push a formula. There’s no standard path through midlife. My role is to work with what’s real and present for you.
