Reinventing Retirement
When I first started InReach, I was looking for better ways to describe the long arc of midlife.
The word Retirement felt problematic - tied to a time when people died within a decade of finishing their working lives.
That was until I considered the idea of retiring parts of ourselves that aren’t serving us anymore: identities and roles that no longer fit, stories we’ve inherited but never questioned.
This kind of retirement isn’t about stepping back from life—it’s a developmental shift. Retirement + renewal.
This kind of reflection is helpful for financial planning because it brings clarity to what matters. When you have a stronger sense of what you value, what you’re retiring from and getting ready for, it can reshape what enough looks like—and that can be just as important as the numbers themselves.
I write about this on Substack.
Janet has a clear, quiet presence that helps build trust and confidence. I was able to explore new ideas, make decisions, and come to useful conclusions with her support in a way I hadn’t been able to before.”
My Approach to Retirement Planning
When you consult a financial planner about retirement, the conversation rightly focuses on what you need to pay for - where will you live? how often do you want to travel? who/what are you supporting financially?
This is important, but it doesn’t cover the purpose and meaning stuff. Like health, social connection, contribution, creative expression and how to shape time differently.
My Reinventing Retirement framework helps you consider what time, roles, energy, identity and purpose might look like in this life stage. And how to build this into your retirement planning.

What’s your important?
There’s no one size fits all, so we explore questions like:
• What stories have I internalised about ageing?
• What do I want to retire from—and move towards?
• If I’m no longer defined by who I’ve been, what next?
• How do I make guilt-free space for my own needs?
• What does meaningful contribution look like now, on my terms?
Some clients are further along and arrive with specific priorities or concerns. All are welcome.
If this is of interest, let’s talk.
